Customers rarely know what they want by name β they know the look. Your job is to translate. Here's how the three main options compare and when to recommend each.
C9 bulbs β the classic roofline
Big, bold, and traditional. C9s give that iconic Christmas roofline you see in every holiday movie. They're the workhorse of the trade: durable, bright, and available warm or in colors. Recommend them for rooflines and peaks where you want impact from the street.
Mini lights β trees, wraps, and detail
Small and versatile, mini lights shine on trees, bushes, columns, and railings. Use them where you want a softer, wrapped look rather than a bold outline. They're the detail work that makes a display feel finished.
Permanent (track) lighting β the premium upsell
Low-profile channel systems installed once and controlled by an app. They're a bigger upfront sale but eliminate yearly install and takedown for the customer β great for high-end clients who want holiday lights and accent lighting year-round. Position them as a convenience-and-value play, not just a light.
How to present it
Don't overwhelm people with a catalog. Offer a "good / better / best" and let the home guide you: C9 roofline for most, add mini-light detail for wow, and mention permanent lighting to the customer who says "I hate putting these up every year."
Knowing the products cold makes you the expert in the driveway β and the expert wins the job.
